SHILLONG: The Silver Jubilee of the Khasi Humorists’ Society, popularly known as SBUK, was inaugurated by Director of Arts & Culture, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, on August 2 at U Soso Tham Auditorium.
On the occasion, a humorous song contest was organised in which Bansuklang Joel Diengdoh and Yosuklang Lyngdoh Nongpiur took the first prize, while Evanisha Pathaw and Lurshai Lyngdoh, and Paul Brek Synrem and Bill More Kharkongor were awarded the second and third prizes respectively.
SBUK also honoured four personalities who have dedicated themselves and worked towards the promotion and interest of the Khasi society including Powell Wilfred Shullai for compiling 345 Khasi songs of yesteryears, Pradip Kurbah, noted film maker and two non-Khasi friends – Dilu Subedi and Beronika Lila Rai – for their efforts to promote the Khasi language and literature.
A book published by SBUK on monoliths and herbal medicines was also released on the occasion.
As part of the celebration, the Society will organise an inter-College comedy competition on August 16 at U Soso Tham Auditorium from 11 am onwards.
