SHILLONG: The fact-finding team constituted by the Opposition parties in the State to study the power scenario in the State will be visiting the Umiam Hydro Electric Project on Tuesday.

Informing this here on Monday, FTT chairman Jemino Mawthoh said that the team’s visit to the Umiam project will be a crucial one since it is the first major hydel project in the State.

“We will find out the various discrepancies and also explore new innovations to improve the power generation capacity of the project,” Mawthoh said.

Mawthoh, meanwhile, said that the Opposition team will hold another round of discussion with top MeECL officials before starting to compile the report.

“We hope to be able to come up with some innovative suggestions in our report which can help to improve the power scenario in the State,” the FTT chairman said.

It is noteworthy that the Opposition team had, earlier, inspected the New Umtrew Hydro Electricity Project in Ri Bhoi district and the Myntdu-Leshka Hydro Electric Project in Jaintia Hills.

The team had expressed satisfaction at the progress of the New Umtrew Project but had refrained from making any comments on the Myntdu-Leshka Project, saying that it was too early to make a comment or reach a conclusion on the functioning of the project.
