SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) has termed as unjust the MBOSE notification which has proposed that primary school teachers who, during the time of their appointment, did not fulfill the eligibility criteria as per NCTE norms have to appear for fresh examinations.

Strongly opposing the notification which will affect teachers from Government Deficit, Adhoc or SSA schools, KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang said, “There is no justification in asking those who have been teaching for the past 10-15 years to re-appear in the HSSLC to meet the qualification as specified in the NCTE.”

As per the MBOSE notification, teachers who have been appointed on or after September 2001, but have not fulfilled the minimum qualification of securing 45 per cent in the pre-university or HSSLC or its equivalent examinations are required to appear the HSSLC examinations, 2015 to meet the eligibility criteria as specified by the NCTE.

The KJDSTA president also questioned MBOSE’s credibility in coming up with the notification since the board is not connected with the recruitment of teachers.

“A notification, if any, should come from the State Government which is responsible for the recruitment of teachers,” Nongsiang said claiming that the Centre has never issued any directive to the State Governments for implementation of the NCTE.

“The Centre had issued only an advisory,” he added.

Nongsiang suggested that instead of asking the teachers to reappear in the HSSLC examinations, an in-service training should be conducted to upgrade their skills.
