SHILLONG: The Opposition on Sunday asserted that it was not a mere mute spectator while dealing with the issues plaguing the State as the Opposition members had jointly raised many issues concerning the state.
Reacting to the news report appeared in this daily on the role of the Opposition, the UDP leader Donkupar Roy said that as Chairman, MPF and President of the party, he can safely say that the Opposition has performed its role, but for paucity of time in the Assembly, much of the important questions put forth by the members including him had lapsed.
On the allegation that the Opposition members had not participated to debate on the issues concerning the people, the UDP leader said that as constituents of the principal opposition parties, the UDP had separately and jointly raised issues from time to time and the same was widely reported.
“As for the inner squabbling within the Congress, it is for the people to see, and if this is serving as ancillary force for the Opposition, who would discount it”, the UDP leader said in a statement issued.
