TURA: Barely a week since the surrender by LAEF outfit’s military chief Mathew Marak and five other cadres to police, the militant group refuses to go away.
A statement issued by self-styled deputy army chief Rakpel Chisim Elite claims that it is not the end of the road for the group.
“The surrender of Mathew Marak is not the end of the chapter in LAEF history. We are not demoralized nor does it break our spirit,” claimed the LAEF.
Accusing Mathew Marak of being corrupted and self-centered, he claimed that the former leader misused the funds of the organization for personal benefit and allegedly mistreated the armed wing cadres.
“There was an attempt by deserters to assassinate him (Mathew) for his misdeeds in which he sustained a bullet injury but narrowly escaped,” he revealed.
“We have all the support we need both from international as well as domestic rebel organizations to regroup and rise again. We will display our strength and capabilities in time,” warned the deputy military chief.
Security forces are unlikely to put much emphasis into the claims by the outfit since their intelligence inputs had indicated that the final chapter of the outfit was in the hands of Mathew Marak and Augustine Marak, the latter getting killed in a police encounter.
