TURA: Meghalaya governor V Shanmuganathan had a series of parleys with dignitaries and organisations including religious leaders and individuals who had appraised their problems and also received memorandums that were submitted by some of them at the Circuit House in Tura on Thursday evening .
The governor had a threadbare discussion with the president and secretaries of different organizations comprising of A·chik Literature Society, the Council of Nokmas, Central Puja Committee, Mothers Union of Tura, Garo Graduates Union, Tura Traders Union, Administrator, Holy Cross Hospital among others.
During the meeting various issues ranging from social, cultural, literature including religious activities and activities related to business establishments were also discussed.
The A·chik Literature Society had submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Meghalaya to include the Garo language in the 8th Scheduled of the Indian Constitution.
The Governor after discussion had agreed to look into various constraints faced by the people of the area and assured that he would forward their memorandum to the Government of Meghalaya for consideration.
On Friday morning, a meeting with government officials representing various departments took place during which Governor Shanmuganathan sought a detailed feedback from them on the ongoing schemes and projects being implemented for the welfare of the people in the region.
Shanmuganathan later had an interaction with the GSU central executive committee led by president Tengsak G Momin.
The meeting proved to be beneficial for all organisations and religious dignitaries involved as the problems they daily face were voiced and steps to curb it were discussed.
