Mid-day meal scam
SHILLONG: The East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner has directed the district Elementary and Mass Education department to conduct an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme.
East Jaintia Hills DC WR Lyngdoh informed that the department has been asked to submit an inquiry report within three days.
School Education and Literacy Minister Deborah Marak also took note of the matter.
It may be mentioned that three FIRs have been filed in East Jaintia Hills against alleged irregularities in the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme. As per the allegations, rice meant for mid-day meal of school children was illegally sold in the market.
One Marshall Biam had lodged a complaint that one P.R. Challam, Block Mission Coordinator, East Jaintia Hills in connivance with Managing Committee of Upper Primary School, Ladrymbai Dongwah illegally sold the mid-day meal scheme rice and also furnished a false statement in the office of the East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner.
Biam had also alleged that Sanbor Shuja, headman of Ladrymbai Dongwah and President Lyngdoh, Principal of Upper Primary School, Ladrymbai Dongwah are also involved in the ‘scam’.
