NONGPOH: East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi figure on the list of districts that will have skill development centres under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra scheme.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of 31 such centres in Uttar Pradesh during the inauguration of an exhibition with an aim to create growth opportunities for youth locally.
Of the 31 kendras, two will be in Meghalaya – one in 13 Mer Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi and the other in East Khasi Hills.
In Ri Bhoi, Care Educational and Welfare Society, the training partner of National Skills Development Corporation under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, organised a programme to inaugurate the 13 Mer Byrnihat centre, where MP Vincent Pala was the chief guest.
The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras are state-of-the-art model training centres which the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship intends to set up in every district in the country. Pala appreciated the initiative and stressed on the need to have more such centres in the State, particularly in Jaintia Hills.
Among other dignitaries present at the function were Umsning MLA C Lyngdoh, MDC of Jirang constituency Victor Ranee and additional Deputy Commissioner D.P Kharsati.
