BSF seizes over 19,000 liquor bottles worth Rs 15 lakh

SHILLONG: The BSF has seized huge quantity of alcohol at the border during this year. The sentinels of border seized 19,814 bottles worth more than Rs 15 lakh being smuggled into Bangladesh, a statement issued by the BSF said on Saturday.
In the latest case, the BSF troops deployed at Baburambil in West Garo Hills apprehended an Indian liquor smuggler with 73 bottles of liquor on Saturday.
The BSF statement said working on a tip-off, the special patrolling party of the force saw suspicious movement near the international border and apprehended one Indian national identified as Shimpu Sangma (25), a resident of Nomail under Dobasipara in West Garo Hills.
On searching, the BSF recovered 73 bottles of liquor and a mobile phone with an Indian SIM from his possession. On questioning, he revealed that the consignment was meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh. The apprehended person and seized items were handed over to Dalu police station for further legal action.
Liquor is banned in Bangladesh.
