SHILLONG: More than a dozen residents of Ichamati, a border area under Shella constituency do not possess EPIC card.
It was discovered in a meeting called by the BJP on Monday, when BJP vice president, Gagan Jain asked the gathered to raise their hands if anyone do not have voter ID. Few people raised their hands when asked as to who do not have bank accounts and EPIC card.
Jain assured that bank accounts will be opened with the assistance of the BJP to help them avail facilities granted by the Union Government.
A lady from Shella constituency, who is a mother of 10 children, told reporters that she has approached the village Heads to apply for an EPIC card for one of her children who have attained the age of 18 above but to no avail. Signaling with her hand, she said, “They only want money.”
Referring to poor health facilities, she said, “There are no doctors in Shella and we have to go all the way to Ichamati CHC for treatment. If the doctors there cannot treat, we make our way to Shillong.”
