SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya Dancers’ Association (AMDA) has threatened to go on a hunger strike if the State Government refuses to call the organisation for talks before the 2018 Assembly elections.
The organisation is peeved because its members were denied audience with Chief Minister Mukul Sangma thrice.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, AMDA president Kitbok Thabah said, “We will protest if the State Government denies us an appointment with the chief minister for the fourth time.” Some of the demands of the association include sponsorship for artistes who are selected to perform outside the State and establishment of a dance institution in Meghalaya.
Thabah said schools should make singing and dancing compulsory so that music teachers get employment. The organisation’s letters have been forwarded to the additional chief secretary of Arts and Culture.
AMDA has not informed the schedule date for the agitation.
Local talents
Daphisha Kharbani from Mawlai Mawiong who is competing in ‘Dance Plus’ has been selected in the top 12, AMDA said. Also, Vishal Paul from Jhalupara is vying for wild card entry in the same show. Kitboklang from Sohiong will represent the State in ‘Bharat ki Khoj’.
