NONGSTOIN: People from various parts of Mawshynrut constituency, who gathered at Maweit on Monday rallied behind a local youth, Gigur Marthong to contest the Assembly polls from NPP.
Alexander Puwein who is from Maweit said that if the ticket is allotted to Marthong, the party would register a win from Mawshynrut as people are behind him.
“We had supported HSPDP for many elections since the time of late Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, but there is no development in our area, and we have been fooled for many decades and even now by the current MLA Witting Mawsor”, he said.
Puwein pointed out that the leaders who were elected in the past never turned up due to the worst road condition in the area.
Puwein, who lost his wife few years back because of the bad road condition and the absence of better health care in Maweit appealed to the people of Maweit and the constituency to choose a new face.
Charboss Langrin Secretary of Maweit is happy that Marthong chose to contest from NPP in the upcoming Assembly polls and termed him as a matured person.
Supporters of Marthong who are also eager to join NPP said that Marthong should be given party ticket as he will be able to defeat the sitting candidate.
Marthong, while addressing the gathering said that there are three NPP ticket aspirants and the high command will finally decide on the right candidate.
“I was a supporter of HSPDP, but now I feel that it is very difficult to work with the party when there is no hope to rule or form the next government”, Marthong said. He also claimed support from the Garo community and hoped that NPP led by Conrad Sangma would respect the people’s choice and their decision. Marthong is also confident that NPP will form the new government in Meghalaya in 2018 as the people of the State have no more trust in the Congress Government.
