SHILLONG: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the special leave petition moved by the government for cancellation of bail granted to GNLA chairman Champion Sangma by the High Court since the hearing in the case will be held on September 4 at the Sessions Court, Shillong.
The Supreme Court lawyer and State Counsel, Ranjan Mukherjee, informed over phone that the lawyer for Champion, Sujit Dey, made a submission that the hearing will be held on September 4.
Dey said that the court dismissed the petition for cancellation of bail and upheld the earlier order of the High Court.
Mukherjee said that whether Champion is convicted or acquitted during the next hearing, the issue of cancellation of bail will not arise.
However, the government may explore reviving the petition depending on further development of the case.
