SHILLONG: The social impact assessment (SIA) for setting up of entry point at 19th mile in Ri Bhoi district has been completed and the expert committee is currently studying the report.
Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, CP Gotmare informed that the expert committee is yet to submit its report, though it was supposed to submit the report this week.
As far as exit point is concerned, the infrastructure was to come up at 13th mile in Ri Bhoi, but the local people opposed the social impact assessment.
“As people have opposed the social impact assessment, now we are taking up the matter with the state government for further course of action , Gotmare said.
The pro ILP groups in the state have already asked the government to expedite the whole process of setting up of the entry and exit points in the state as part of the comprehensive mechanism to tackle influx and illegal immigrants.
The concept of setting up of the entry and exit points in the state came up after the pro-ILP NGOs who were hell-bent on implementing inner line permit later towed down to the setting up of the entry and exit points to check influx and illegal immigration.
The setting up of the entry and exit points in the state is expected to pave way for the introduction of railways in the state as the NGOs are demanding a comprehensive mechanism to check influx before giving their nod to the railways.
Earlier this year, even the Government halted the construction of railway work saying the work will resume after entry and exit points are setup in the state.
