TURA: The commerce and industries minister from Assam, Chandra Mohan Patowary, has predicted that a strong political wave is moving against the ruling Congress in Meghalaya and this would lead to its wipeout in next year’s assembly elections.
He was speaking at the party’s first ever booth level workers’ convention at New Tura playground on Saturday.
“The mood of the people is for a change and this can be gauged from the crowds attending the party’s Karyakarta Sammelan here today (on Saturday),” said the former AGP president and now BJP minister after he was escorted from Asananggre to Tura in a convoy of motorcyclists.
“From Arunachal Pradesh to Manipur and Assam, all are ushering in a change by removing the corrupt Congress and welcoming BJP. Why should Meghalaya be any different,” said Patowary as he called upon the people of Garo Hills to translate their anger against bad roots and lack of development with a vote against the Congress in the coming elections.
“Prime Minister Modi is working tirelessly to ensure all north eastern states get their share of development and so the development of Meghalaya and the entire region depends on the formation of a BJP government,” he announced and revealed that he left his regional party, the AGP, to become a BJP member after witnessing the developmental works of former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee and current PM Narendra Modi.
He also cautioned the workers about Congress attempts at spreading misinformation about the BJP and said the grassroot workers have a very important role to spread the word about the development agenda of BJP.
He attacked the Congress for naming every important project in the country behind the Gandhi family. “From housing to free electrification the Congress couldn’t see beyond the Gandhi family,” he said and took potshots at Congress ministers and leaders from Meghalaya who head to Delhi for state work accusing them of keeping silent for fear of being castigated by their party leaders.
