SHILLONG: BJP national president Amit Shah said if there is a competition for the most corrupt regime, then the award should go to the Mukul Sangma-led government.
Shah observed this while addressing a select group of party workers after inaugurating the BJP office here on Saturday.
Shah said though there should not be any competition for the most corrupt chief minister or government, but “if such an award is given, it should go to the Congress government led by Sangma”.
According to Shah, corruption is visible in every field in Meghalaya. “The money allotted to the state government by the Centre has not percolated to the public and instead, it was taken away by the Congress ministers and others, otherwise there should have been overall development in the state like in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and others.”
The BJP leader said there is no improvement in infrastructure and sectors like health, education and tourism, among others, in Meghalaya.
“There are many jobless youths in the state and the government failed to provide opportunities for them. The Congress-led government failed on all fronts,” he said.
According to Shah, BJP is ruling in 19 states in the country and the party’s aim is not just to form the next government in Meghalaya but to make it a model state which will help the poor and the needy.
“The mission of BJP is to ensure that people get their dues and the Prime Minister wants the poor, youths, farmers and women to be empowered,” Shah said.
The BJP leader wanted to know what prevented the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and the Congress-led government in Meghalaya to develop the state since they were in power for 10 and 15 years, respectively.
He said while the policy of the Congress is to divide and rule, BJP stands for the development of all sections of society.
Earlier, Shah said he was glad not only for the good crowd, but also for the people’s response at Tikrikilla, which indicate that the BJP is going to form the next government in Meghalaya.
