1 killed, 7 injured
On February 24, Wanphai Myrchiang (20) of Nongtalang village, West Jaintia Hills fell off from a moving vehicle. As a result, Myrchiang sustained injuries and was shifted to Nazareth Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
On February 26 around 4.30 pm, one motorcycle (ML-08B-4705) ridden by Namseng M Sangma (35) met with an accident at Anangpara Road, South West Garo Hills. As a result, the rider sustained injuries and was shifted to CH Ampati.
On February 26 at 12.40 pm, one auto-rickshaw (ML-10B-1432) turned turtle on the road at 18th Mile, Ri Bhoi. As a result, six occupants sustained injuries and were shifted to CH Nongpoh.
Accident
On February 27 around 2 pm, one Mahindra pick-up (ML-10A-8156) carrying fifteen occupants including two infants, capsized at Wadrochiring Dalia in East Khasi Hills. The vehicle was driven by Sileng R Marak. The occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries and were admitted at CHC in Ichamati.
Fraud
Gregorious Lyngdoh Nonglait lodged a complaint that on February 20 between 11.30 and 11.45 am, he received a phone call from an unknown person who informed him that he had won a lottery of Rs. 12, 80,000 from Shopclues Clux and to claim the cash prize he has to pay a certain amount of money. The complainant deposited a total of Rs. 2,69,000 in different accounts but till date he did not received the prize money.
Assault
On February 27 around 10 pm, two persons – Ringgan D Marak and Nambat Ch Sangma of Kambakpara village in South West Garo Hills, assaulted Pibin T Sangma (35). The victim sustained injuries and was shifted to Civil Hospital in Ampati.
On February 27, unidentified assailants attacked Aibor Kharsohnoh (20) at Bamkamar village in East Jaintia Hills. The victim sustained injuries and is now undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, Shillong.
Nokenti R Marak of Damalgre, South West GAro Hills lodged a complaint that on February 26 at 2.30 pm, Chingseng Marak assaulted her while she was returning home from her sister’s house.
Rihun Phai lodged a complaint that on February 26 around 1.30 am, two persons identified as Thawladmiki Susngi and Dawanpaia Niang assaulted her husband Kamal Tyngkan (21) at Dulong Pohhali, West Jaintia Hills. Victim sustained injuries and was shifted to Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai.
Salomi M Marak of Kujikura village, West Garo Hills, lodged a complaint that on February 25 at 9.30 pm, her brother, Jona M. Marak (22) threatened her with dire consequences and also assaulted her, causing injuries to her.
Vehicle missing
On February 24, one Maruti Swift D’zire (AS-25BC-5711) was reported missing on the way from Guwahati to Shillong.
Theft
On February 27 and 28, unknown miscreants broke into the house of Protasius Puwein at New Nongstoin and stole one TV set, twenty five rounds of SBBL cartridges, twenty five rounds of .32 live ammunitions along with one magazine.
Drugs seized
Around 950 bottles of Phensedyl, a cough syrup worth of Rs 1.21 lakh was seized by the BSF from Netri, South Garo Hills on Wednesday evening. The syrup was being smuggled to Bangladesh. However, the smugglers managed to escape and the seized consignment was handed over to the concerned authority for investigation.
