SHILLONG/JOWAI: In a spate of road accidents three persons lost their lives and a dozen were injured in the State.
A home guard was killed after being hit by a twelve-wheeler at 8th Mile, West Jaintia Hills on Sunday.
The deceased identified as Apherngait Ymbon was working with the Phra Mer Traffic Cell.
Ymbon was standing on the footpath when the truck (NL 01G6755) hit him. After hitting the home guard, the truck went on to dash another vehicle (Ford Eco-sports ML05L-2178) injuring four others.
The driver of the truck, Standing Sylliang, has been detained.
The home guard personnel succumbed to his injury at the District Civil Hospital, Ialong whereas the injured persons, occupants of the small vehicle, were rushed to Shillong for proper medical treatment.
Two die in EKH
In an incident occurred on Sunday night, a van carrying four persons collided with a truck wherein two persons were killed and another two were critically injured near Diengpasoh police station, East Khasi Hills.
The Mawryngkneng based 108 service helped one of the victims to shift in neigrihms and the second injured person was shifted by the highway ambulance of NHAI.
In another incident, on July 21 around 2.30 pm, one motorcycle (AS-21F-2161) ridden by Nikesh Sapkota (21) dashed against one Jeep (ML-06A-0053) driven by Koswel Nongrum (39) at Liarkhla village in Ri Bhoi. As a result, the motorcyclist and one pillion rider sustained grievous injuries and were shifted to NEIGRIHMS.
