SHILLONG: The Congress party which is in troubled waters in the state following the sudden resignation of stalwart, DD Lapang, may get some more jolts as more MLAs and ex MLAs of the party are likely to join National People’s Party (NPP) very soon.
Hinting this here on Monday, NPP leader and MLA from Phulbari, SG Esmatur Mominin said that the NPP was expecting some other Congress MLAs and ex-MLAs to join it very soon.
Refusing to divulge any information about the move, he, however, admitted that he was in touch with some Congress men who wished to join the NPP
The Congress has suffered blow after blow in the state since its veteran leader, MM Danggo left the party and joined NPP to unsuccessfully contest the by-election in Ranikor.
The party suffered another blow when four-time Chief Minister and stalwart, DD Lapang resigned from the party after he had been allegedly sidelined by the AICC.
When asked if NPP would welcome Lapang in the party fold, Mominin said that the party would welcome if DD Lapang intended to join the party.
“He (DD Lapang) is a mentor and he is a great leader and we will be very happy if he comes and joins our party,” Mominin added.
He also said that the NPP would be stronger if leaders like DD Lapang joined it
Terming the resignation of Lapang as a big loss to Congress, he added that the resignation of veteran leaders from the Congress would surely affect them and their position would only deteriorate in future.
