SHILLONG: Around 25 youths including 9 girls from the state took part in the State Level Adventure Training Camp which concluded on Sunday at Upper Lumparing.
Matsiewdor War, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs was the chief guest on the occasion. The camp which was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYK), Shillong was jointly organised by Meghalaya Sport Climbing Association (MeSCMA).
The chief guest expressed pleasure to see young people taking interest in outdoor activities ‘when most people their age prefer to spend time at home’. She also appreciated the efforts of NYK for taking the initiative to organise the camp and MeSCMA for training the young adventurers.
The seven-day camp aims to inculcate the spirit of adventure, discipline, fraternity, cleanliness and conservation of natural resources among the youth. The participants were trained by instructors from MeSCMA in adventures sports suxch as rock climbing, sport climbing, rappelling, river crossing, flying fox, jumaring, basic leadership programme, tent pitching and a five-hour day trekking and a two-hour night trekking among others.
