SHILLONG: The city police said on Friday those who were issued notices in connection with last year’s violence in Motphran may face arrest if they did not respond.
When asked, East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said many people were given notices with a fixed time frame to reply. “If they don’t respond to the notice, we will have to submit a report in the court and they can be arrested as well,” he added.
Earlier, police had issued notices to over 50 people as they were part of the mob that pelted stones and carried out arson.
The police had also issued notices to many people who uploaded provocative posts on Facebook and other social media platforms.
More than 50 notices were issued under Section 41 (A) of the CrPC to clarify if they have posted such provocative posts.
