SHILLONG: Two women candidates from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Mylliem MDC Teilinia Thangkhiew and greenhorn Amanda Annette Pakyntein, filed their nominations on Thursday.
Thangkhiew, along with Laban-Mawprem PDF candidate Frederick Lynshiang, was accompanied by PDF MLA from Mylliem and Cabinet Minister Hamlet Dohling.
Another Cabinet minister and MLA from Mawkynrew, Banteidor Lyngdoh, accompanied his wife Pakyntein and another PDF candidate from Nongkrem, Melamshuwa Rynjah.
Speaking to reporters, Thangkhiew sounded confident of being re-elected as MDC.
She said she quit the HSPDP as she saw better opportunity to serve the public through PDF.
Commenting on the district council, she said the codification of Hima and finalisation of the land bill are her priorities.
Lyngdoh said the party has fielded loyal candidates at a time when threat of defection creates an atmosphere of discomfort in the district council.
Dohling said he expects PDF’s 15 candidates from KHADC to emerge victorious.
For Mylliem constituency, he said, “Much development is needed and MDC and MLA should work together.”
