SHILLONG: Former home minister RG Lyngdoh said on Tuesday unemployment and influx should not exist side by side as is the case in Meghalaya.
Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Infra Dialogue @ Meghalaya, Opportunities, Challenges and Way forward’ at Shillong Club, Lyngdoh said, “Influx happens because people see opportunities and unemployment happens because people don’t see opportunities. Our people from here do not see opportunities for themselves.”

According to Lyngdoh, start-up activities in the tourism sector, like community-driven projects, “will sustain people in the long run and is the best distribution of wealth”.
Speaking about the state’s economy, Lyngdoh said to revive the economy of the state, tourism and tourism related infrastructure should be looked at closely.
He added that law and order in Meghalaya is far better than other northeastern states.
