SHILLONG: In a U-turn the BJP has decided to field businessman Rikman G. Momin to contest Tura Lok Sabha Seat on Sunday.
This has come as a surprise as the BJP had declared on Saturday only the name of Sanbor Shullai to contest Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
Earlier, the state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh had said that the voters in Garo Hills can vote for any other candidate than Congress nominee.
However, after the leadership of the party took the decision on Sunday, Shibun said that the state leadership will abide by the decision of the central leaders.
When contacted, national BJP leader Nalin Kohli who is also the incharge of Meghalaya said that the party found Rikman a fit candidate to contest the Tura seat and hence decided to field him.
Besides Rikman, the applicants for Tura seat were former minister KC Boro, Digros D. Shira and Thomas Marak.
Rikman had unsuccessfully contested the Rongjeng seat in the last Assembly polls in 2018.
