Precautions taken against JE virus: Hek

SHILLONG: Even though none of the 17 reported cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) fits into the clinical definition of the disease, the state Health department has asserted that it will not sit idle on the matter.
Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek on Wednesday said that the department has already directed all districts especially in Garo Hills to immediately inform if there is any JE cases so that necessary measures can be taken.
“We don’t want to wait for the outbreak of the disease and we are already taking precautions,” Hek added. Shillong-based Regional Director, Regional Office of the Health and Family Welfare, Dr SD Majumdar stated that the cases did not fit into the symptoms of the JE virus.
