SHILLONG: One Pillarson D Sangma has raised a slew of questions regarding ban on coal mining in an open letter to chief minister Conrad Sangma pointing out, for starters, that the issue has remained unresolved despite his claim that the ban has been lifted and the NPP has fulfilled its promise.
Questioning the chief minister, the letter said that the Supreme Court order entrusted Coal India Ltd to dispose the coal through auction sale after receiving it but now the company is talking about e-auctioning.
It said that the state government had filed that 32 lakh metric tons (MT) of coal are still to be transported but in reality not even 10 lakh metric tons exist on the ground.
Expressing concern over the small-time miners, the letter said that now, small-time miners have to engage engineers to prepare mining plan and professional miners along with machineries which are too expensive for small miners.
