6th MLP bn personnel distribute blankets to needy

SHILLONG, Dec 2: With the state continuing to see a dip in the mercury, the officers and personnel of 6th Meghalaya Police Battalion on Tuesday launched its campaign, ‘Reaching Out – Beyond The Call of Duty’, by donating blankets to the needy from villages in Ri Bhoi.
A statement by Lakador Syiem, commandant of the 6th MLP battalion said, “We started by donating 50 blankets to the needy locals of Umran Niangbyrnai village who were identified by the Dorbar Shnong.”
“This programme will continue in the days to come in the surrounding villages of 6th MLP BN Hq Umran where we will donate 50 blankets in each village to the needy identified by the VDPs and various Dorbar Shnong,” Syiem added.
Syiem said that till now, they have received 500 blankets as contributions from the MLP personnel and well-wishers, which will be donated in the run-up to Christmas.
“We are hopeful that others too will support us in future. As of today, 2nd December, another 400 blankets have been pledged to this programme by our police personnel friends and well-wishers, bringing the total to 900 blankets,” he said.
