Abducted headman’s family alleges ransom demand
NONGPOH, Jan 12: Family members of Manason Doloi, the headman of Warmarsaw village in Ri Bhoi, who was kidnapped by unknown miscreants on January 9, have alleged that the abductors have demanded ransom for his release. Police, who have corroborated the family’s statement, have, meanwhile, refused to divulge the details of the demanded ransom amount. The police have also assured that they are leaving no stone unturned to rescue the abductee and nab the abductors. According to the information so far, Doloi was reportedly abducted on Saturday night by unknown miscreants, who are suspected to be from Assam. Meanwhile, leaders of Western Ri Bhoi Durbar (WRBD) have expressed concern over the incident, while also praying for Doloi’s release. The WRBD also exhorted the state government to set up a police outpost at Bakhlapara, a border between Meghalaya and Assam. The WRBD members are of the opinion that such a move will check criminal activities along the border area.
