JOWAI, April 4: In yet another case of crime against women, police on Sunday recovered the body of a woman, aged between 22 and 23 years, from Chah-tngit near the Jowai-Amlarem bypass.
Sources informed that the woman, who is still breastfeeding an eight-month-old infant, left her home in Mukroh village, West Jaintia Hills, around two weeks back and was residing at Mooralong, Jowai.
“She used to stay in Jowai and returned to her village when the lockdown was imposed last year but two week ago she went back to Jowai only to meet with such a tragic end,” a source informed.
Interestingly, a car (Maruti Swift) had capsized in the same place from where the body was recovered, but it was pulled out in the wee hours of Sunday without any information to the police.
A speaker from the vehicle’s music system was recovered along with the body.
A source claimed that the car belongs to Rynsan Pde of Chilliangraij, Jowai, who is a close relative of a former state legislator.
Police have detained the vehicle owner and have launched a thorough investigation into the case. They are, however, yet to confirm if the victim was travelling in the car.
