SHILLONG, April 13: BJP leader Sanbor Shullai has sought Governor Satya Pal Malik’s intervention for a roadway through the 58 Gorkha Training Centre (GTC) for the convenience of civilians.
In a letter to Malik on Tuesday, Shullai proposed a road connecting Mawshbuit to Shillong.
The MLA’s letter comes a day after a fracas reportedly broke out between some civilians and GTC personnel, prompting the latter to shut the gates, barring the people from passing through it.
In his letter, Shullai said, “…I request you to highlight and bring an amicable solution to the concerned defence authorities to kindly part away with a small portion of land to allow free civilian movement to and from Mawshbuit and not disturb the defence zone. This road will connect residents of Mawshbuit with Shillong”.
He suggested that the city traffic snarls can be mitigated if select portions of land under defence possession, are handed over to the state.
