NONGPOH, April 28: An FIR has been lodged against three persons on complaint received from Khasi Students Union, Umshaken Unit, which alleged that the persons utilised fake EPIC as proof of identity at Umling facilitation centre in Ri Bhoi claiming to be residents of Umshaken village.
The trio was first detected by the personnel manning the Umling Screening Point on April 6 around 9 am.
After thorough inquiry, the EPICs of the three persons identified as Md Mahafuj Ali, Md Sukur Ali and Shahajad Ali were found to be suspicious.
The KSU, Umshaken Unit, then filed an RTI with the Election department of Ri Bhoi seeking detailed documents of the apprehended group. The department, in reply, stated that their names were not found in the electoral roll.
“Today, after getting the replies from the Election department, the Union filed an FIR at Nongpoh Police Station against them for using and possessing fake EPIC which is against the law of the Election Commission of India,” the KSU said.
Meanwhile, KSU North Khasi Hills District president, Ferdynald Kharkamni, stressed on the need to be vigilant as influx is one of the major threats to the indigenous people.
