1.3L receive first vax dose in WGH

TURA, July 7: A total number of 1,31,780 persons have been administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine while 18, 607 people have received their second their dose in West Garo Hills so far.
Informing this during a meeting in Tura, District Immunisation Officer, Tura Dr Ivonne M Sangma, said that 62,433 persons vaccinated with the first dose belong to the 18-plus category while 56,781 persons belong to 45-plus category. On the other hand, 4,579 health workers have been vaccinated with the first dose and 3,616 have been administered the second dose. A total of 7, 987 frontline workers have been vaccinated with first dose and 4,455 with second dose, she said.
Informing that the vaccination drives are being conducted at hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and special session sites in the district, she said that a total of 449 children (0-14 years) have been affected with the virus during the second wave.
On the other hand, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, during the meeting, urged employees of all government and private offices in the district to get vaccinated.
Cases rising again
After lying low for almost two weeks, infection rates are once again rising in the region with West Garo Hills district witnessing the highest number of infections, once again. A 50-year-old man from Chotcholja village of North Garo Hills, suffering from pneumonia caused by the infection, was brought to Tura civil hospital in a critical condition on Wednesday but could not be saved.
His death is among three to pass away from the infection in less than one week.
The number of active cases which had been brought down below the 500-mark, a week ago, has risen again.
On Wednesday, 541 active cases were in the district among which 56 were fresh cases detected during the day.
