SHILLONG, Feb 14: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma reiterated that the NGOs who are protesting over the election of Rakesh A Sangma as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the GHADC are politically motivated.
Making it amply clear that the CEM was elected through a democratic process, the chief minister said, “There has been no interference from either my side or the party leadership. The will of the MDCs will go forward. They are the ones who have to run the district council.”
Asserting that the government will support in the administrative aspect of running the council, Sangma said, “We will continue to give all support not only to the GHADC but even to the other ADCs.”
He also pointed out that most of the NGOs have backed out of the protest since they have realized that the new EC is committed to resolving the crisis in the GHADC.
To a query on the allegations of the NGOs that the new CEM had never followed Garo culture and tradition, the chief minister said, “The fact remains that he has been democratically elected based on the constitutional provisions. This argument does not hold any more water.”
