AITC candidate set to challenge NPP for GHADC chairman’s post

TURA, March 3: The fight for the post of Chairman of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council has turned into a two-way battle with All India Trinamool Congress MDC from Rongrong, Rinaldo NK Sangma putting his hat in the nomination ring on Thursday.
Sengchim Sangma, the NPP MDC from Gasuapara, is the consensus candidate of the ruling NPP coalition. The election for the post of the Chairman will take place at 11 am on Friday.
Currently the NPP coalition leads the way in the GHADC with 17 MDCs on their side in the 30-member house, including nominated member, Aldo Sangma.
The AITC has the support of 13 members including two BJP MDCs as well as former CEM Benedic Marak and Naguapara MDC Dhormonath Sangma, both of whom have quit the ruling coalition.
