Nothing to be alarmed about: CM on COVID

SHILLONG, Dec 22: As apprehensions run rife about a possible resurgence of COVID-19, Meghalaya appears to be in no immediate trouble as the positivity rate in the state at present is 0.1 or 0.2 per cent.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who reviewed the COVID-19 situation here on Thursday, said that the situation is under control and there is no need to panic.
Conrad said that tests are being conducted and the situation is being monitored by the government, while reiterating that there is nothing to be alarmed about.
He, however, advised people to wear masks wherever possible in view of the festive season.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the country.
The states have been asked to carry out genome sequencing of positive cases and random sampling of international arrivals at airports, and the exercise has begun.
Recently, the Union Health ministry in a letter had urged all the states and union territories to boost genome sequencing to keep track of the emerging variants.
It may be recalled that Principal Secretary of Health Sampath Kumar had earlier on Wednesday said that Meghalaya has got its own laboratory to conduct genome sequencing of the Covid positive cases, including Omicron sub-variant BF.7.
