SHILLONG, Dec 27: The Meghalaya Congress on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the manner the state government was handling the Mukroh incident and stated that the only way forward is to constitute a boundary commission.
“The state government should move for a boundary commission or it should move the Supreme Court to correct whatever mistakes have been made. The boundary commission is the only solution where you can negotiate through culture, geography and history,” MPCC president Vincent H Pala said.
Accusing the state government of shying away from the real problems, Pala said, “The government is not taking the issue seriously. They have totally surrendered and are only providing lip service.”
Referring to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s “self-defence” statement, Pala wanted to know how it was “self-defence” when Assam Police personnel were inside Meghalaya territory. “The Meghalaya CM did not react to the Assam CM’s statement and this exposes the government’s weakness,” he added.
It may be recalled that the Assam CM had recently said that the Assam forest official was “attacked and killed by the miscreants from Meghalaya”.
“…thereafter five people died as a result of police firing which was done in self-defence and for protection of government properties,” Sarma had said.
