Police seize heroin, nab two women

SHILLONG, March 16: In another case of drug seizure, police on the wee hours of Thursday foiled a heroin-smuggling bid and apprehended two women in the connection.
Acting on inputs that one Lathazuali Ralte had sent one Lalduhwami Ralte to ferry illegal contraband items from Mizoram to Shillong in a vehicle (ML05K2432), police set up a naka check.
It was then at around 5 am that the vehicle was intercepted at Ladrymbai and a search was conducted subsequently.
During the search, one black backpack was recovered within which a black polythene containing five soap boxes with 55.68 grams of yellowish powder was hidden.
The same was later tested positive for heroin.
“Further, in the course of investigation and on being led by Lalduhwami Ralte a team of East Jaintia Hills Police proceeded to Shillong to apprehend Lathazuali Ralte who is the mastermind and the main receiver of the illegal contraband. Lathazuali Ralte was apprehended at her rented apartment at Demthring, Madanriting, with the help of staff of Madanriting PS and was brought to Ladrymbai to be arrested in connection with the instant case,” a statement in this regard said.
