Shillong, October 8: Ahead of President Draupadi Murmu’s visit on October 11, extensive security arrangements have been implemented across the Valley.

As per IANS, President Murmu is scheduled to deliver the 20th convocation address at Kashmir University during her visit.

This visit marks her first to the Valley since assuming the presidency. She will also have the honor of awarding gold medals, PhD, and M.Phil degrees to around 400 meritorious students/scholars from the University, starting from 2020 onwards.

Following the convocation, the President will attend a light and sound show on Dal Lake in Srinagar, where Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha will host her for dinner on the evening of October 11.

In accordance with the President’s security protocol, extensive preparations are underway. The Kashmir University campus is being thoroughly sanitized well in advance of her VVIP visit. Intelligence assessments are being conducted on all individuals attending the convocation in any capacity.

A significant security presence, both in plainclothes and uniform, will be deployed across the sprawling 1500 Kanal campus starting from Monday. Access to the campus will be strictly regulated through electronic and human surveillance measures.

A senior security official emphasized the need for a 100% secure environment both inside and outside the campus. This includes the use of drone surveillance, electronic equipment, and the deployment of police and paramilitary personnel, along with the latest high-tech gadgets.

Additional security drills and surprise cordon and search operations have been initiated to deter anti-national elements and miscreants.

To ensure security while minimizing inconvenience to the public, thorough vehicle and pedestrian checks are being conducted at entry points to Srinagar city. Mobile bunker vehicles and drop gates have been strategically positioned in Srinagar and surrounding areas in preparation for the President’s visit.
