Umpleng horror: Police nab two more; names withheld

SHILLONG, July 15: Police on Monday said that two more people have been arrested in connection with Umpleng killings, a gruesome incident that sent a wave of horror across East Jaintia Hills and the state subsequently.
East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad M, revealed that three persons have been arrested so far, adding that the details of the arrested persons are not being disclosed in the interest of investigation.
Investigation is ongoing to trace and arrest the other person(s) involved in the case, the district police chief said.
It may be recalled that residents of Umpleng village in East Jaintia Hills on July 6 morning discovered four bodies lying with their hands tied with rope and multiple cut injuries on their bodies, likely caused by sharp objects.
The respective family members of the four deceased identified their bodies. They include Ravi Rai (23) of Patha Elam, Nepal, Rajesh Rai (26) from Koshi, Anchal, Nepal, and Nasar Kyndait (33) of Dkhiah East Pohshnong, East Jaintia Hills. The fourth deceased was identified as Loba Tamang.
A criminal case has been registered with Khliehriat police station.
