TURA, Oct 13: The district administration of North Garo Hills has begun a probe into the recent incident of food poisoning in which 80 people were confirmed to have taken ill after consuming ‘chana’ mixture at A’dokgre in the same district.
The poisoning incident reportedly took place during a football match held at Chenanggre Stadium at Adokgre, where people from the area who came to watch the football match fell ill after consuming a reportedly contaminated chana mixture from a local vendor.
The affected people were rushed to the A’dokgre PHC but due to the seriousness of a few cases, 6 of them had to be referred to Guwahati and Goalpara hospitals for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the latest ground report and inputs received from the medical department stated that the affected people were out of danger. The samples of the consumed food particles have also been sent to Shillong for laboratory testing.
The inquiry report as well as the in-depth report of the lab test are being awaited.
