National eContent competition concludes at NERIE Umiam
NONGPOH, March 29: Curtain came down on the three-day All India Children’s Educational eContent Competition, organised by the Central Institute of Educational Training (CIET) under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), at the North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), Umiam. The competition, which culminated on Friday, featured diverse categories, including audio, video and new media, aimed at fostering creativity and innovation in educational content. The event received around 700 entries from across India, reflecting the growing enthusiasm among students and educators for digital learning materials. Meanwhile, the valedictory ceremony saw the distribution of over 100 prizes, recognising outstanding contributions. Dr. Amendara P. Behera, Joint Director of CIET (NCERT) New Delhi, had attended the event as the chief guest. Speaking to the media persons, Dr. Behera said such initiatives align with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates competitions among students, teachers, teacher educators and media professionals to encourage the creation of high-quality digital educational content. Dr. Behera further noted that the eContent competition, announced in October 2024, had garnered over 700 submissions by the January 31, 2025, deadline. Nearly 150 participants from across India were invited to contribute, and a total of 70 award categories were introduced, with incentives ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 40,000 to promote excellence in digital learning content.

Group holds public meeting, calls for development in Garo Hills
SHILLONG, March 29: The A.chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) held its 5th public meeting on Saturday at the Salbari Rabukong (Pedaldoba) playground, which was attended by leaders and residents of over 50 villages, along with leaders from various non-governmental organisations. Prominent attendees included Malsin Marak, Secretary of the AYWO A.chotchonggre Regional Unit; Witjess Marak, representing the Constitutional Rights Forum (CRF); and Withing Marak, Secretary of the All Garo Hills Merchant Association (AGHMA) Raksamgre Unit. Among the key speakers, Kinjing Ch Sangma, Nokma of Dandarigri A.king land, urged elected representatives of the Garo Hills region to actively pursue initiatives for regional development. Additionally, the Nokma of Dengangre highlighted the long-standing aspiration for a Winter Capital in Tura, emphasising its potential to enhance administrative accessibility and reduce the financial burden of traveling to Shillong for official work.

Cleaning drive at David Scott Trail
SHILLONG, March 29: The Synjuk ki Hima Arliang Wah Umiam Mawphlang Welfare Society recently organised a cleaning drive at David Scott Trail from Wahtham to Kor Parkti. According to a statement here, the cleaning drive was participated by tourism team of Synjuk Tour Guides Mawphlang, community facilitator of Hima Mawphlang, youth volunteers of Hima Mawphlang, community facilitator and youth volunteers of Hima Mawbeh, Tour Guides Hima Mawbeh, residents of Steplakrai, Mawbeh, Mawkalang and Laitsohma villages, Martin Luther Christian University NSS unit, et al. “The cleaning was flagged off by the Project Director and Founding Chairman of Synjuk ki Hima Arliang Wah Umiam Mawphlang Welfare Society, Tambor Lyngdoh,” the statement said.

Coaching class for police aspirants
SHILLONG, March 29: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Chokpot regional unit, on Saturday conducted a one-day coaching class for candidates who cleared the police physical test in January. According to a statement here, the session, which was attended by hundreds of youths from Chokpot, aimed to equip aspirants with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the upcoming police entrance exam. Renowned instructors, including Chokpot SDPO Krison R. Marak and Officers-in-Charge Boas R. Marak and Fenios Sangma from Chokpot Police Station, provided expert guidance on effective writing techniques for the exam. Additionally, Block Development Officer (BDO) Jerico N. Sangma attended the programme, offering valuable insights on competitive exam preparation.
