NONGSTOIN: The FKJGP Rambrai Circle inspected the Mawdumdum Health Sub-centre on Wednesday and found that it has become a cattle shed.
FKJGP, Rambrai, led by its president Wadbor Nongphud noticed that the health sub centre lay in an abandoned stage and had become a cattle shed and a brooms stock for local traders.  It was also noticed that the sub-centre lacked medicines and the quarters resembled abandoned ghost-houses with no electricity or water supply.
Wadbor Nongphud said though the building was completed many years ago, it remained  non-functional leading to misutilisation by some people for various reasons. It was also found that the environment was not healthy to treat children.
Villagers have alleged that the chowkidar or watchman posted in the health centre has not   performed his duties since the time of completion of the building.
The FKJGP urged the Government through the health department to take immediate steps to deploy staff nurse and a doctor at the centre, as well as provision of electricity and water connection to ease treatment of patients.”The functioning of the health sub centre will be a blessing for thousands of the area. However the sub-centre would be insufficient to cater to the needs of the vast population and hence, the Government should also upgrade the sub centre to a PHC” Nongphud added.
