Awareness programme
As part of the experiential learning of the students, the department of English and Communications and the third semester MA Music students, Department of Fine Arts, Martin Luther Christian University, on Friday organized a music awareness programme in Moodymmai, Thadlaskien block, West Jaintia Hills. The event, Ka Yutip Hei Rwai Hei Siaw, Hei Put Hei tem (Awareness in Music) was held in the community hall of the village and organized in collaboration with the NSS unit, MLCU.
Launch
Sanatan Dharmasabha Harisabha, on Friday, launched its yearly Durga Puja souvenir, Saptarswa. The souvenir was inaugurated by Anita Panda, a prominent writer and Bijoy Das Gupta, an octogenarian.
Excise raids
The Excise staff of East Khasi Hills District, in July, conducted raids in restaurants and stalls in the town and its outskirts, wherein 202.200 litres of illicit domestic liquor and 25.205 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor were seized and 15 persons were arrested under the Excise Act.
Cleaning Drive
The William Carey University on Thursday carried out a cleaning drive in around its campus at Nongmynsong, Umkdai. The Vice Chancellor, Registrar, faculty and students of all departments cleaned the surroundings, as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
National Postal Week
The National Postal Week and World Post Day will be organised by the Department of Posts from October 9-15. A customer meet will also be held on 15 October at 11am at Shillong GPO.
Puja greetings
The Meghalaya unit of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) wished the people of the State on the occasion of Durga Puja, Kali Puja and Diwali.
Blaze Sports Social and Cultural Association, Upper Mawprem wished the people of the state  on the occasions of Durga Puja, Dussehra and Muharram.
The Barapathar Muharram Akhara Committee, Mawbah conveyed its best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of Durga Puja and Dussehra.
Gandhi birth anniversary
The People’s Welfare and Development Society, a social organization, in collaboration with the NYK, Jowai observed the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with the students of Krist Syiem Secondary School, Namdong recently. The Society, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jowai also launched a four months free computer training at Krist Syiem Secondary School.
