Rs 8 cr for road project in WJH

SHILLONG: PWD (Roads) Minister M.M Danggo has said sitting in the secretariat will not help solve problems in rural areas.
The Minister, who visited far-flung Shangpung and Raliang in West Jaintia Hills on Thursday, stressed on the need for first-hand information about problems faced by people in remote areas and said “this is the reason I often travel to rural areas”.
Danggo, along with local MLA Comingone Ymbon, inspected internal roads in the villages on Thursday.
The Minister said the Government has sanctioned Rs 7.81 crore for a two-lane RCC bridge project for Shangpung, which will be constructed on a 22km road.
The bridge will connect several inaccessible villages in Shangpung. The existing bridge is weak and heavy vehicles are not allowed to ply on it.
“We will immediately call the tender and expedite the construction of the bridge,” he said and added that the bridge will pave the way for a subway that needs to be constructed in the village.
The Minister also inspected other rural roads which are in need of immediate repair.
He assured that all proposals will be discussed and action will be taken.
